At Ratcliffe Elementary School, the safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority. To maintain a secure environment, we conduct routine emergency drills throughout the school year, including fire, bus evacuation, tornado, earthquake, Lock & Teach, and Lock & Hide drills.
For detailed information on our emergency protocols, download the “Crisis Preparedness – Parents and School Emergencies” handbook from the Henrico Schools Crisis Preparedness Guide.
-
Students and families can report safety concerns—such as bullying, drug use, mental health crises, violence, or other threats—100% anonymously. To submit a report, visit the Ratcliffe Elementary Website, click the "Silence Hurts" link, or select "Anonymous Alerts" in the main menu beneath the school banner.

In the event of a school crisis, you may receive an urgent notification to pick up your child. Please follow these location-specific instructions:
- Pick-Up at Ratcliffe Elementary: Park in the school lot or along the street, enter through the main entrance to sign your child out, and proceed to the cafeteria for reunification.
- Pick-Up at Harvie Elementary (Sister School): Park along the street and report directly to the cafeteria entrance, where staff will escort you to your child.
Reunification Essentials:
Authorized Pick-Up Only: The person retrieving the student must be listed on their official emergency contact form.
Government-Issued Photo ID: Required at check-in for all pickups.
Maps: Refer to the reverse side of this page for detailed site maps and arrival routes. -
Online safety is just as critical as physical security. As an accredited Common Sense Media School, Ratcliffe integrates age-appropriate digital citizenship and internet safety lessons throughout the curriculum to keep students safe in today's digital landscape.
